Service to the community and giving back have always been core values for me. Whether serving as a poll precinct commissioner, speaking with students, or simply picking up litter along the way, I feel a strong responsibility to be an active participant in the care and quality of our shared environment. Some examples below:
Free Little Library in my neighborhood. The old one rotted and the community was hoping for a new one. Libraries are a big part of my family. My Granny, Marge, was on the Orleans Parish Library Board. She had this great quote from her mom:
“ If you want something out of a community, you’ve got to put something into it.”
In 2012 I teamed up with the New Orleans Public Library to start the "Krewe of Kids", a free art program designed to get the community into the library for a fun create afternoon making Carnival masks and "shoebox" Carnival floats. All supplies and materials were donated by local businesses, and prizes were awarded to lucky participants.
