In June of 2015, I started out on an incredibly challenging and rewarding endeavor, building a digital fabrication department at Kern Studios. After sourcing a Kuka 7 axis robotic CNC combined with Autodesk Powermill software, it was my job to bring an idea into reality. Utilizing 3D scanning in conjunction with 3D modeling,  I set out to prove that the future of themed entertainment design had arrived at Kern Studios.

Starting Small

After sourcing the equipment and building the environment for installation, the first few projects simply illustrated that the equipment delivered by Robotic Solutions Inc was the right system for our needs

Scaling Up

Getting the kinks worked out of the system was an incredible challenge, yet one that had to be overcome. Hiring an in house modeler was my next step in getting our robot into the full swing of production.

The Great Leap

Once we had the first dozen projects out, the time came to test the limits. With a work envelope of 3200 cubic feet and some creative planning, potential size for a sculpture is now virtually unlimited.
